Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. is seeking applicants for the position of SELF-HELP CENTER NAVIGATOR for the PEORIA COUNTY COURTHOUSE.  Prairie State is an 80-attorney legal services program serving 36 counties in northern and central ILLINOIS outside of Cook County.

The Self-Help Center Navigator is responsible for assisting residents of Peoria County to navigate and effectively use the Peoria County Self-Help Center. The free, online legal self-help center helps the public find information about their legal rights and responsibilities, videos on what happens in court and some legal documents which they can fill out and file, including on-line pleadings and forms.  For more information about the Self-Help Center, see  Prairie State will both employ and train the Self-Help Center Navigator, who will work in the Peoria County Courthouse. This is a part time position at 14 hours per week. Start date is July 31, 2017.

Qualifications:  Interest in and commitment to assisting low-income individuals in the resolution of their legal problems.  Bachelor’s or paralegal degree required.  Successful candidate must be reliable, detail oriented, and professional. Proficiency with computers and internet based software required. Some type of legal experience and Spanish-speaking ability are preferred, but not required.   

Pay Rate: $13.00 per hour
